Heavy, continuous rain has led to flooding in Namlan, Hsipaw Township, Northern Shan state affecting 14576 people. Local authorities had to evacuate people with 1283 families in peril and 205 homes completely destroyed, Sai Naw Kham, Director of the Centre for Rural Education and Development (CRED), reported this morning.
Sai Naw Kham says that “Our school boarding house is flooded and we are now keeping the 92 students who live in there safely in our CRED office.”
Sai Naw Kham says that the food, clothes and basic medical supplies are urgently needed. He added that “The flood has subsided slightly today but reduced the risks remain very high.”
Heavy rains have doused Myanmar over the past two weeks and affected many regions includes Shan State. Local residents are concerned about their children’s safety while traveling to and attending school during this time.
