TEES Distributes School Materials

The Teacher Established Education Services (TEES)  is an initiative of the Rural Indigenous Education Services (RISE) Network that aims to distribute school materials to rural schools in Myanmar.

The distribution started last month in the following areas: Chin, Naga, Ta’Ang, Lahu, Shan, and Karen TEES schools. The schools materials included exercise books, marker pens and inks, , rulers, sharpeners, erasers, pens, register books, and A4 papers for students and the teachers.

Sayar Lan Nan, a Naga  Mobile Teacher Trainer (MTT) focal person said that they experienced some challenges doing the distribution during the raining season. He said, “The schools are in far remote locations where transportation is a big challenge especially this year. The weather is noticeably different from the past years. Heavy raining and flooding followed with landslide make it difficult to reach the schools. Despite these challenges, we were still able to deliver the school materials.”

Sayar Lan Nan added that he remains optimistic and said, “When we are talking about supporting far remote schools, it is really satisfying to see the students get a chance to learn mother-tongue based education, especially kindergarten to 6th grade  primary level.”

In the distribution, lower primary student gets 12 note books, 6 pencils, 2 erasers, 1 pencil sharpener and 1 ruler. Upper primary student gets 12 note books, 3 pencils, 5 pens, 1 eraser, 1 pencil sharpener and 1 ruler. Middle school student gets 15 note books, 10 pens and 1 ruler. High school student gets 18 note books, 10 pens and 1 ruler. Each TEES teacher get 18 note books, 10 pens, 2 marker pens, 1 ink bottle, 1 ruler, 4 pack of chalks, 1 register book and 2 packs of A4.

TEES was monitored by MTTs since 2016 and there are 153 schools, 217 teachers and (11596)students in 2018-19 academic year.
