On November, more than 800 community members participated in the Education Sensitization Event (ESE) in the village of Kyain Ton Pi, Te Tain township, Zomi region. According to Sayarma Mu Lwan Po, a staff from RISE Network, half of the participants were children.
“The purpose of the ESE is to raise awareness of the local people on the importance of education. It is also where the community shares their indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage amongst each other since there are many ethnic groups living in one community. At first, we were only expecting around 500 participants, but we were surprised and happy that more than 800 turned up. This tells us that the local people are really interested to know more about ethnic education and how they can be involved.” Shared by Sayarma Mu Lwan Po.
The Zomi Development Foundation (ZDF), a partner organization of the RISE Network, will be doing another ESE on 08-09 December in Oh Darl Khine village, Tun Zan township.
The ESE is an initiative of the RISE Network that started in October 2017 and being implemented by its partner organisations in Kachin, Kayan, Karen, Chin, Zomi, Ta’Ang, and Naga.
